If you are an anime fan like me, then you were probably eagerly awaiting the launch of Netflix's live action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop. When that day came some of us were happy about what we saw and others were not. However, none of us foresaw cancelation after one season, yet here we are.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that despite the open ended conclusion of the first season the streaming giant Netflix will not be bringing Cowboy Bebop back for a second run. They continue to say that the show's ratings plummeted almost sixy\ty percent in the last week. Finally, they cite that Insiders as saying that Cowboy Bebop was cancelled due to the streaming giant "balancing the show’s viewership and cost."

Insiders pointed out that Netflix’s renewal rate for scripted series that have two or more seasons stands at 60 percent, in line with industry averages, and, like all Netflix renewal verdicts, the decision was made by balancing the show’s viewership and cost. - The Hollywood Reporter

Without going into spoilers and infusing my opinions into this piece of Entertainment News, I can say this decision by Netflix does not surprise me. Rotten Tomatoes didn't rate this adaptation of a classic fan favorite anime well. The Tomatometer has it sitting at a "46%" as of the time of writing this and the "Audience Score" was not much better at a "59%". You can read the Critics Consensus in the excerpt below.

Critics Consensus - Maybe next time, Space Cowboy -- this live-action Bebop has a fun enough crew to spend time with, but it disappointingly replaces the soulfulness of the source material with kitsch. - Rotten Tomatoes

Additionally going back into November Looper reports the show didn't receive well by the anime's established fanbase. They report that fans didn't like the way the show's creator's vision of "Faye Valentine" a fan favorite character. Something that resulted in the actress who portrays Valentine to release her own video where she doesn't seem to receive the fan criticism well. You can listen to her rant in the excerpt below.

One thing is for certain, if you are a fan of the new adaptation of Cowboy Bebop you are going to be saddened by the reality is is over before it even really began. However, if you are a disgruntled fan, you may be happy to see it go. For Netflix, though it was simple a juice that was not worth the squeeze
